Interested in helping out but not sure what's involved?

Then read on and see if there's something that takes your fancy.

Rally Office Assistant

During the lead up to the event, assistance is needed with event paperwork preparation. General administrative and clerical skills are useful, but certainly not essential.

Located at Rally HQ* to assist with the smooth running of HQ including duties such as reception, administrative tasks, competitor liaison. Rally Headquarters will be open from the afternoon of Monday, 5 May to the morning of Monday 12 May. Times are flexible, you don't have to be there all day from the 5th to the 12th!. Any time you can spare, even if it's a few hours a day, we'd love to have you!

Equipment / Set up Marshal

Assist before & during the rally with preparation, allocation, delivery and retrieval of equipment to/from all parts of the rally. Required from Wednesday 7 May - Sunday 11 May.

Reconnaissance 'Recce' Marshal

Reconnaissance# occurs on Thursday 8 May. Marshals are located at the start and finish of the Special Stages** to ensure that no competitor gets more than 2 passes over each stage. To do that you're provided with a simple document on which you record the entry time (if you're at the start) or exit time (if you're at the end) of each of the cars.

Results Official

The main Results Centre is located at Rally HQ*. "Infield" results may also be located at Spectator Points and at the Service Park. Results officials (both at HQ and 'infield') assist with the compilation & distribution of results and are needed on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 May.

Scrutineering Official

Assist with the examination of the rally cars for safety & compliance. Days that scrutineers are required are Thursday 8 May to Sunday 11 May. You don't have to be available every one of these days, but it would nice if you were!

Road Closure Marshal

Located within a Special Stage** you are exactly what the name suggests, a marshal who sits in a designated (sometimes fairly isolated) position in the forest for the day to assist in maintaining stage security - although you usually a great personal spectator point. Required Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 May 2008, and for this job you'll be required to have your own vehicle.

Flag Marshal

Located within a Special Stage**, a Flag Marshal is a buddy to a Radio Operator. In the event that a stage needs to be stopped, the Radio Operator will receive advice from Rally HQ and will in turn instruct the Flag Marshal to display a yellow flag to competitors to slow them down. Required Saturday 10 and/or Sunday 11 May.

Spectator Marshal

Located at specifically selected and constructed Spectator Points, you assist with control, safety & parking of spectators. Required Saturday 10 and/or Sunday 11 May.

Control Security

Located at the start and finish of Special Stages** you maintain a watching role to ensure only authorised personnel enter the control area/Special Stage. Required Saturday 10 and/or Sunday 11 May.

Start / Finish Control Official

Various positions including Post Chief, Timekeeper, Record Keeper, Starter, Timer & assistants. These positions are responsible for recording information, including the starting & timing of competitors at the start and finish of Special Stages. Parc Ferme / Service Park Marshal

Involves the booking in/out of competitors & the security of regroups (scheduled stops) & Service Park (designated area to work on cars). Required all day Saturday 10 and/or Sun 11 May.

All the jobs above are either jobs which do not require any special experience or expertise, or are jobs which will have you with other people in a team environment. The only exception is the Road Closure Marshal. Experience isn't necessary to be a Road Closure, but a car is required as it will assist you in blocking access to the course and will also be your source of shelter. Getting a friend to volunteer and come along with you is highly recommended!

**Special Stage - Special Stages are the various sections of forest completely closed to the public where Rally cars travel at competitive speed

*Rally HQ - Rally HQ is the base for the overall running of the event. The Results Centre, Media Centre and Information Desk are all within HQ. In 2008 Rally Headquarters is located at Hotel Realm located at 18 National Circuit, Barton.

#Reconnaissance - Reconnaissance or 'recce' is when the crews drive the special stages prior to the Rally to write their own instructions or 'pace notes'. Recce is for crews to drive the route in road going vehicles at restricted speed.
